Rep. Joe Emrick and Sen. Lisa Boscola announced on Dec. 18 that $1,939,159 in state grants has been awarded to support projects in the 137th District through the Local Share Account by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
The funding is intended to help local communities complete priority projects related to public safety, community development, and recreation. Boscola said, “I have fought hard to make sure our local communities get their fair share of statewide dollars to complete priority projects.” She added, “These projects have been identified by local government leaders as important to improving the quality of life in their communities through funding for public safety, community development and recreation projects.”
Emrick said the grants will help emergency service providers obtain equipment needed to serve and protect residents. “The grants that we worked so hard to secure support our local emergency service providers with equipment that is vital to serve and protect our community,” Emrick said. “It’s great that we can meet such critical needs and strengthen emergency service response across the 137th District, especially knowing these funds are derived from gaming revenues and not taxpayer dollars.”
Projects receiving funding include ambulance remounting, firefighter radios, police vehicles, public works vehicles, bicycle path rehabilitation, powered stair chair purchases for EMS services, a bucket truck for Upper Nazareth Township Public Works, and radio equipment for police and fire departments across several townships.
The funds come from gaming revenues generated under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which supports public interest projects throughout Pennsylvania via the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
