Congressman Ryan Mackenzie, representing Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, introduced a resolution on March 20 calling for Congress to immediately and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a lapse in appropriations continues to affect national security operations and frontline personnel.

The resolution underscores the importance of DHS in protecting the United States from evolving threats and warns that ongoing delays or partial funding could undermine coordination and preparedness during a period of heightened risk. Mackenzie said, “Partisanship from the far left has put politics ahead of our national security and stripped frontline workers of their paychecks. At a time of heightened risk to our national security, it’s critical that our nation’s security apparatus is fully operational. We need to pass full DHS funding now, alongside commonsense ICE reforms – like those already included in the appropriations package – to keep our country safe and secure.”

The Department of Homeland Security includes agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the United States Secret Service. Many employees have continued working without pay during the current funding lapse. The resolution also expresses gratitude to DHS employees who continue their service despite these challenges.

Mackenzie’s district covers Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon counties, and part of Monroe County according to his official website. He supports community programs including art competitions, commendations, grant assistance according to his official website, and offers Spanish-language services by appointment at his Downtown Allentown office according to his official website.

During his tenure in the Pennsylvania state House, Mackenzie authored legislation aimed at improving healthcare, strengthening workforce development, protecting taxpayers, preserving the environment, supporting veterans, and reforming government according to his official website. These issues remain central in his work as a member of Congress according to his official website.

The resolution calls on Congress to act quickly so that DHS receives all necessary resources for its mission. It emphasizes that only full funding will allow effective protection against threats facing the nation.
