U.S. Congressman Ryan Mackenzie has used his social media platform to address recent developments regarding government funding and the potential for a federal shutdown. In a series of posts on October 2 and 3, Mackenzie outlined actions taken by Congress and commented on the ongoing debate over continuing resolutions.
On October 2, Mackenzie wrote, “Back in March, Congress passed a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution in order to keep the government funded. Two weeks ago, my colleagues and I passed an identical continuing resolution in the House to keep the government funded for seven more weeks. This time, Senate”.
Later that day, he shared a quote from The Morning Call: “Mackenzie said that he is continuing to advocate for a continuing resolution that keeps all funding the same. ‘So nobody ends up winning, nobody ends up losing, but the government functions and operations would continue,’ he said. ‘Hopefully that’s”.
On October 3, Mackenzie addressed constituents directly about the effects of a potential shutdown: “Senate Democrats’ partisan shutdown has real consequences for the people of the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos: Hundreds of thousands of federal employees are furloughed, servicemembers are not being paid, and critical services are at risk of shutting down. That’s why we’re”.
Continuing resolutions (CRs) are temporary measures used by Congress to fund federal agencies when formal appropriations have not been enacted. They are often employed to prevent lapses in government operations during budget negotiations or political impasses. In recent years, disagreements between legislative chambers have led to several near-shutdowns or actual partial closures of federal agencies as lawmakers debate spending priorities and policy riders.
Congressman Ryan Mackenzie represents Pennsylvania’s 7th congressional district, which includes parts of Lehigh Valley and the Poconos—areas he referenced in his comments about local impacts from potential furloughs and service disruptions.
