On May 17, 2025, Congressman Mackenzie acknowledged Armed Forces Day by honoring active-duty service members, veterans, and military families. He expressed gratitude for their contributions to the Greater Lehigh Valley and beyond, stating “Today is Armed Forces Day—a time to honor the service and sacrifice of our active-duty service members, veterans, and military families in the Greater Lehigh Valley and beyond. We’re grateful for all that you do to protect our freedoms and keep our communities safe.”
Later that day, he highlighted a ceremony where he presented a Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and “V” device to the family of Mr. William Bybel from Carbon County. This recognition was given in honor of Bybel’s service during World War II. Mackenzie noted “On this Armed Forces Day, I had the honor of presenting the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and “V” device to the family of Mr. William Bybel of Carbon County, a veteran of the Second World War.” He expressed pride in his office’s role in facilitating this recognition.
In another event on May 17th, Mackenzie participated in celebrating Jim Thorpe’s 138th birthday in the town named after him. He reflected on Thorpe’s legacy as an influential athlete whose achievements continue to inspire many Americans today. Mackenzie shared “I was privileged to participate in Jim Thorpe’s 138th birthday celebration in the town that proudly bears his name.”
