Nearly $1.5 million in state grants has been allocated to two projects in Pennsylvania’s 137th District, according to an announcement by Rep. Joe Emrick (R-137). The funding comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the PA Small Water and Sewer Program and the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.
Lower Nazareth Township was awarded a $1.25 million grant from the Multimodal Transportation Fund. The funds will be used to improve a section of Township Line Road, which runs through both Lower Nazareth Township and East Allen Township.
The Bethlehem Township Municipal Authority received a $200,000 grant under the PA Small Water and Sewer Program. This money is designated for rehabilitating 12 pipes within the storm sewer system in Bethlehem Township.
According to Emrick, “The PA Small Water and Sewer Program authorizes the Commonwealth Financing Authority to award grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, storm water and flood control projects with a cost of not less than $30,000 and not more than $500,000. The funding can be used to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.”
Emrick also explained that “The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.”
The Commonwealth Financing Authority was created in 2004 as an independent agency within Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus initiatives.
