Prof. John Kincaid shares insights on redistricting

Lafayette College Pubc Safety issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.

Hearings on redistricting in the state began earlier this week after Gov. Tom Wolf vetoed the congressional redistricting map approved in the State House and Senate.

The court must redraw boundaries to account for a decade of demographic shifts that’ll last through 2032.

John Kincaid, Robert B. and Helen S. Meyner Professor of Government and Public Service, told WFMZ that the veto wasn’t much of a surprise.

“We have a Democrat in the Governor’s Mansion and Republican legislature. We have a deadlock between the two parties,” Kincaid said. “The hearings are an attempt to try to reach a compromise, which seems unlikely.”

Ultimately, the disagreement may impact whether primary elections happen in May.
