A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Northampton Borough Police Pension Plan regarding detailed information about their pension rosters on September 20, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Northhampton News requested these records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
The specific information sought includes a list of all active employees and retired employees for in the organization's pension fund for the year of 2023. The data fields requested are last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount, year, process date, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and 2023 contribution amount.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
