The issue of election integrity in Pennsylvania has become a contentious topic following the events of November 5. Representative Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) voiced concerns over the counting of votes that were deemed illegal by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
"Poor Bob Casey! His ego and delusions of grandeur might be bigger than the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," Mackenzie stated, referencing the aftermath of recent elections. She criticized certain counties for allegedly defying legal standards to benefit their political affiliations. One instance highlighted involved a Bucks County commissioner who publicly justified breaking election laws.
Governor Josh Shapiro's response to these allegations has also been questioned. According to Mackenzie, Shapiro was silent during initial controversies but eventually reaffirmed adherence to legal rulings, while suggesting confusion stemmed from legislative actions.
Mackenzie emphasized the need for stronger voter ID laws and improvements in voting technology as solutions to ongoing issues with election integrity in Pennsylvania. "Unless we have people in power who actually care about fair, smooth-running and honest elections in the Commonwealth, nothing will change," she asserted.
With two years remaining in his term, Governor Shapiro's potential role in addressing these concerns remains under scrutiny. Meanwhile, Mackenzie pledges continued advocacy for policies aimed at ensuring election integrity within the state.
