Last week, State Representative Ann Flood joined the House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee on a tour of Bethlehem, Easton, and Allentown. The focus was on strategies to enhance tourism, recreation, and economic growth in the Lehigh Valley region. This is part of preparations for the upcoming Lehigh Valley 250 celebration, linked to the nationwide America 250 commemoration.

The Lehigh Valley is Pennsylvania's third-largest metropolitan area and is strategically located near major cities such as Philadelphia and New York. Its rich history makes it an important part of America 250. On July 4, 2026, the nation will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. "This milestone gives us a moment to pause," said Flood.

The region has historical significance dating back to July 8, 1776, when Robert Levers proclaimed the Declaration of Independence from Easton's courthouse steps. The Lehigh Valley 250 celebration aims to highlight this history by involving local businesses and organizations in honoring past contributions while planning for future development.

During Wednesday's tour segment at Hotel Bethlehem, Flood participated in a panel discussion with leaders from tourism, hospitality, arts, culture sectors, and Lehigh Valley 250 partners. A reception at Lafayette College followed where discussions centered on community partnerships that drive regional growth.

The next day included a roundtable at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown with business leaders from Eastern Pennsylvania. They discussed collaboration strategies for ensuring the success of the Lehigh Valley 250 event. While there, attendees previewed Illuminations—a light show planned for winter viewing at Coca-Cola Park.

Flood emphasized that as they approach this historic milestone in 2026: "Together we will celebrate our past," she noted regarding efforts to make Lehigh Valley an attractive destination for future generations.
