Chuck Bednarik died on March 21, 2015
On March 21, 2015, Chuck Bednarik died at age 89. Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, he played center and linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1949 to 1962. He was one of the last two-way players in the NFL. Bednarik won two NFL championships and was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. Before his football career, he served as a B-24 waist gunner in World War II, flying 30 combat missions. His early life in Bethlehem, including attending Liberty High School, shaped his athletic path. Bednarik’s legacy remains significant in both football and his hometown.
