American Legion issued the following announcement on July 31
Dear American Legion Family,
Last year The American Legion was proud to invite the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, to address delegates at our national convention. It was just another chapter in our longstanding and warm relationship with this close ally.
I want to once again thank Taiwan for its recent donation of 250,000 medical masks presented to The American Legion on July 28. I was pleased to meet Ambassador Bi-khim Hsiao during a small gathering at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C. The ambassador’s mother hails from Black Mountain, N.C., close to my hometown of Lenoir.
The masks are the kind of gifts that can save the lives of veterans and others who are especially vulnerable to the novel coronavirus. An additional thanks to Rep. Ted Yoho for his support and attendance at the presentation.
