State Representative Joe Emrick (R-Northampton) has announced that more than $2.8 million in state grant funding has been awarded to townships and a historical society through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The grants were approved during the CFA Board meeting and will be allocated through the Commonwealth's Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS) and Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Water Projects Program (H2O), as well as the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program (PACR).
Representative Emrick expressed his enthusiasm for the approved funds, highlighting their importance in maintaining infrastructure and preserving historical heritage. He stated, "I'm incredibly happy to announce the approval of these grant dollars for the communities' benefit, as it ultimately helps the taxpayers avoid additional tax increases."
The grant awards include $12,029 in PACR funding for the Moravian Historical Society. This funding will be used for new programs and marketing efforts aimed at promoting the history museum and historical site located in Nazareth Borough.
Bethlehem Township has been granted $700,000 in H2O funding for the installation of stormwater piping on Walnut Street. Hanover Township will receive $1.6 million in H2O funding for its sewer extension project at Chaucer Lane and Lord Byron Drive. Palmer Township will benefit from $250,000 in H2O funding for its sanitary sewer extension project. Lastly, Upper Nazareth Township has been awarded $300,000 in SWS funding for its stormwater system upgrade project.
These grants are funded from multiple sources, with the largest contribution coming from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money that has been allocated for recreation and conservation purposes as part of previous Pennsylvania state budgets.
The awarded grants will play a crucial role in supporting the development and improvement of these townships and the Moravian Historical Society. By investing in infrastructure and cultural preservation, these funds will contribute to the overall well-being of the communities involved.
