Apr. 04, 2024 HARRISBURG – Representative Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) has announced two upcoming community events aimed at protecting individuals from fraud.

One of the events, scheduled for Thursday, April 18, is a Scam Jam with Fraud Bingo, in partnership with the Young at Heart group from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Queenship of Mary Catholic churches. The event is specifically designed to safeguard senior citizens from falling victim to scams and will take place at Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary’s social hall in Northampton.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the events, Mako stated, “I’m pleased to host both of these events. They tackle the issue of becoming a victim of fraud by different avenues. Unfortunately, identity theft and scams continue to be a problem.”

Furthermore, on Saturday, April 20, in collaboration with the Borough of Northampton, a free shredding event will be held at the Northampton Memorial Community Center. This initiative aims to assist residents in protecting themselves against identity theft by securely disposing of personal documents.

The Scam Jam event will feature speakers from various organizations including the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, the Area Agency on Aging, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and the Northampton Police Department.

Residents attending the shredding event are encouraged to bring acceptable items such as paper and manila folders containing personal information. Each household is limited to four bags or boxes, and businesses are kindly requested not to participate. Staples or paper clips do not need to be removed from the documents.

For those seeking further information about consumer protection and identity theft, additional resources will be provided at the events. Attendees are advised to enter Smith Drive and take Pany Drive to access the event location at Laubach Avenue.

To learn more about the events or for general inquiries, individuals can contact Mako’s offices at 610-502-2701 or 610-760-9805, or visit his website at RepMako.com.

The 183rd District, represented by Zachary Mako, includes several townships and boroughs in Lehigh and Northampton counties.
