HARRISBURG – Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) has announced the allocation of $49,000 in grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF) to enhance veteran services in the 131st District over the next two years.
"I am grateful that this critical funding has been secured to support veteran initiatives in the 131st District. This funding will help to expand critical outreach services to veterans, and I was pleased to offer my support for these helpful grants," expressed Mackenzie. "Each grant signifies a commitment to ensure our veterans thrive, from housing to transportation and beyond. Together, we can honor their sacrifices by building a brighter future."
The grant funding from DMVA aims to support new, innovative, or expanded programs and services for veterans, specifically focusing on veterans' outreach. The funds have been allocated as follows:
- Montgomery County Office of Veterans Affairs: $2,500 for outreach services to veterans and $12,500 for transportation services.
- Veterans Brotherhood, Pennsburg (Montgomery County): $34,000 for housing services to veterans.
The Veterans’ Trust Fund is sustained by contributions from Pennsylvanians who voluntarily donate $5 when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID, or motor vehicle registration. Additionally, proceeds from the sale of the ‘Honoring Our Veterans’ and ‘Honoring Our Women Veterans’ license plates, along with private donations, contribute to the VTF. Since its inception in 2013, the grant program has awarded a total of $7,482,860 to organizations supporting Pennsylvania veterans.
