A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Northampton County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request, made by us at Northhampton News, sought detailed reports about pre-election testing of voting machines used in the county.
The records requested under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law are aimed at providing transparency and accountability in the electoral process. Specifically, we asked for electronic copies of the pre-election test reports for each voting machine used in the county.
The information sought includes the date of each test, the manufacturer of each machine, their model numbers, and whether they passed or failed their respective tests. These details are critical for ensuring that all voting machines are functioning correctly and reliably ahead of elections.
As a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. This waiver would facilitate our efforts to disseminate important information about local government operations and activities.
We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information regarding this FOIA request.
