Rep. Zach Mako and Sen. Pat Browne have announced that South Whitehall Township will receive a grant of $85,966 for enhancements to Vistas Park. The funding was secured through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program, which supports various projects related to greenways, recreational trails, open spaces, and parks.
"The South Whitehall grant will benefit one of the largest of the township’s 15 pocket parks and increase recreational opportunities for nearby residents," said Mako. He expressed his satisfaction with the inclusion of pickleball courts due to the sport's growing popularity.
Browne highlighted the importance of parks in South Whitehall Township: "South Whitehall Township is home to a tremendous offering of parks and outdoor recreational opportunities, which benefits our region's residents and quality of life." He acknowledged working alongside Mako to secure this funding.
The allocated funds will be used at Vistas Park for constructing pickleball/tennis courts, a shade structure, pathways, slides and swings. Additionally, there will be improvements to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility to athletic fields.
The 183rd District represented by Mako includes parts of South Whitehall among other areas in Lehigh County as well as Northampton County boroughs. Meanwhile, Browne represents the 16th Senatorial District covering multiple townships in Lehigh County including South Whitehall.
