Rep. Ann Flood of Northampton County has announced that over $1.2 million in grant funding has been awarded to support conservation and recreation projects within the 138th District. The funds are part of the 2024 Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
“These grants bring transformative opportunities to our community by preserving our natural spaces and creating vibrant parks and trails that foster both recreation and environmental stewardship,” stated Flood. “Each project speaks to our commitment to enhancing community spaces where families can connect with nature and enjoy our region’s incredible outdoors.”
Several projects in the district will benefit from this funding:
Bear Swamp Park in Upper Mount Bethel Township is set to receive $550,000 for rehabilitation efforts, which include a new internal loop trail, boardwalk, interpretive signage, ADA access, landscaping, and other site improvements.
The Upper Mount Bethel Preserve will be allocated $600,000 for trail renovations, walkway construction, overlooks, a pavilion, and stormwater management measures aimed at improving accessibility and sustainability.
Bushkill Creek Restoration will receive $185,000 directed towards stream restoration in Easton. This includes dam removal, streambank stabilization, and the installation of riparian forest buffers intended to enhance water quality and ecosystem health.
A Comprehensive Recreation Plan for Northampton County will also be updated with a $75,000 grant. This plan provides a long-term roadmap for future recreational development across the county.
These initiatives aim to expand public parks, improve outdoor spaces, and protect natural resources for residents throughout the region.
The Community Conservation Partnerships Program is supported by various state and federal sources such as the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund; the Environmental Stewardship Fund; and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. These programs focus on protecting Pennsylvania's natural landscapes while promoting recreational activities.
