Rep. Ann Flood has announced that Northampton County will receive funding for three recreational projects totaling $198,035 through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP). These grants aim to enhance public spaces and improve outdoor recreation in the 138th Legislative District.
Lower Mount Bethel Township is set to receive $77,625 for reconstructing a 1,200-foot section of its trail system, which suffered damage from flash floods in July 2023. The repairs are intended to strengthen the trail against future flooding and restore it for public use.
Pen Argyl Borough will benefit from $76,708 allocated for the first phase of renovations to its 83-year-old pool. The facility will be transformed into a year-round regional aquatic center featuring a spray playground that can also serve as an ice rink during winter months.
Washington Township is awarded $43,702 to develop a new dog park. This park will include separate areas for large and small dogs, a double-gated entry, benches, and waste stations. It aims to provide a safe space for pets and their owners.
“These grants reflect a commitment to improving our communities by creating safe, functional, and modern recreational spaces,” said Flood. “From rebuilding damaged trails to transforming a local facility into a regional aquatic center, to providing a dedicated space for pet owners, all of these projects are excellent new ways to help bring the community together. I’m excited to see these initiatives take shape and enhance the quality of life throughout our district.”
The GTRP supports projects that develop, rehabilitate, and enhance public parks, trails, and green spaces with the goal of encouraging community engagement and promoting healthy living.
