Rep. Joe Emrick announced that Bethlehem Township will receive over $8 million in funding aimed at improving water quality for its residents. The project involves retrofitting four existing basins at the Bethlehem Township Municipal Authority, which is expected to enhance stormwater retention and reduce pollutants through infiltration.
"Ensuring and improving water quality for our residents is of the utmost importance and I couldn’t be more pleased to see this funding approved for the residents of Bethlehem Township," stated Emrick.
Bethlehem Township Commissioner John Merhottein also expressed his approval of the funding, stating, "We are so happy to see this funding approved for the residents of Bethlehem Township. Continually improving water quality for residents is essential and I look forward to seeing this project take place."
The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PennVEST) has approved this funding. PennVEST offers low-interest loans and grants for new construction or improvements to drinking water, stormwater, or sewage treatment facilities, as well as non-point source pollution prevention best management practices.
