The journey of parenthood is accompanied by significant responsibilities, with decisions that shape a child's future in terms of happiness, health, and success. According to Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton), parents initially determine various aspects of their children's lives but lose this influence when it comes to education once the child reaches school age.

Rep. Mackenzie highlights that from the age of five until high school graduation, educational choices are largely controlled by government entities rather than parents. This situation applies particularly to children from average families in Pennsylvania who do not have the financial means to access diverse educational opportunities.

Children from wealthier families often have different educational experiences as their parents can remain involved throughout their schooling. These families have access to private schools, religious institutions, and selected teachers, allowing them to tailor education according to their preferences.

Rep. Mackenzie emphasizes that most parents understand their children's needs better than anyone else and should be allowed more input into their education. She notes current issues within Pennsylvania schools, including failing institutions and bullying environments, which could be mitigated if parents had greater control over educational choices.

Advocating for broader school choice options, Rep. Mackenzie asserts that all parents should be able to select suitable schools for their children regardless of economic status. "Educational choice provides a giant step in that direction," she states, urging for parental decision-making power in schooling matters.
