Lafayette College Pubc Safety issued the following announcement on Oct. 5.
As part of Inauguration Week’s schedule of events, Eric Bettinger, a professor in the Stanford University School of Education, spoke with President Nicole Farmer Hurd in Colton Chapel.
Bettinger’s conversation with Hurd (video is below) covered topics such as turning barriers to higher education into bridges, ensuring students are seen and heard and valued, and supporting student success. He also shared what the Lafayette community should know about Hurd as a person and a leader.

About Eric Bettinger
Bettinger, who is also a research associate in the program on education at the National Bureau of Economic Research, worked with Hurd when she was CEO of the College Advising Corps (CAC), for a decade when she was expanding the nation’s largest college access program and focusing on instilling a culture of evaluation and improvement. He collaborated with her in strengthening that culture and providing outside validation of CAC’s efforts.
His research focuses on using rigorous statistical methods in identifying cause-and-effect relationships in higher education. His research has influenced recent efforts by the White House to simplify financial aid processes. Bettinger has served as a consultant to the White House and various state governments on financial aid policies.
