Last week, State Representative Ann Flood joined the House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee on a tour of Bethlehem, Easton, and Allentown. The focus was on strategies to enhance tourism, recreation, and economic growth in the region, particularly with the upcoming Lehigh Valley 250 celebration as part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration.

The Lehigh Valley is Pennsylvania's third-largest metropolitan area and is growing rapidly. Its proximity to major cities like Philadelphia and New York makes it an important part of America 250. On July 4, 2026, the nation will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This anniversary offers a chance to reflect on America's past and plan for its future.

The Lehigh Valley has historical significance dating back to July 8, 1776, when Robert Levers proclaimed the Declaration of Independence from the steps of the courthouse in Easton. The Lehigh Valley 250 celebration aims to highlight this history by bringing together local businesses, leaders, and organizations.

During Wednesday's tour segment at Hotel Bethlehem, a panel discussion included leaders in tourism, hospitality, arts, culture, and partners of Lehigh Valley 250. A reception at Lafayette College highlighted how institutions like Lafayette College and companies such as Crayola contribute to regional growth through community partnerships.

On Thursday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Flood participated in a roundtable with business leaders from Eastern Pennsylvania to discuss collaboration for the success of Lehigh Valley 250. She also previewed "Illuminations," a light show set for winter at the park.

The upcoming celebration will honor the region's contributions to American history while boosting tourism and strengthening the economy. Representative Flood emphasized that it is an opportunity to celebrate the past while embracing future possibilities for making Lehigh Valley a destination for generations.
