Rep. Zach Mako and Sen. Nick Miller have announced that over $515,000 in Local Share Account grants from gaming revenues were allocated by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to projects in Northampton and Lehigh counties.
The grants aim to support economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects through gaming funds under Act 71 of 2004.
Allen Township received $219,220 to purchase a backhoe to replace a 20-year-old piece of equipment. This will aid in municipal tasks such as moving materials, breaking asphalt, landscaping, snow removal, and tree planting.
Bath Borough was awarded $54,266 for five new portable radios for the Bath Volunteer Fire Department. East Allen Townships secured $165,000 for a new rapid response emergency vehicle for their volunteer fire company.
Northampton Borough received $23,300 for security cameras across the borough to prevent vandalism at various locations including playgrounds and parks. Slatington Borough was granted $56,051 for stormwater infrastructure and roadway restoration in the Shadow Oaks Lane area.
“These five grants will support important and necessary equipment and projects within the 183rd Legislative District without requiring tax increases,” stated Mako. “Equipment and municipal infrastructure can only be repaired and restored so many times before replacement is the only option.”
Miller added his support by stating: “I’m proud to have advocated alongside Representative Mako for these substantial investments in our shared communities.”
The 183rd House District encompasses parts of Lehigh County including Lowhill and North Whitehall townships along with Slatington Borough; it also covers several areas in Northampton County. The 14th Senatorial District includes multiple boroughs and townships across both counties.
