Rep. Ann Flood has announced the allocation of over $1.2 million in grants from the 2024 Community Conservation Partnerships Program to Northampton County. The funds aim to support conservation and recreation projects within the 138th District.
“These grants bring transformative opportunities to our community by preserving our natural spaces and creating vibrant parks and trails that foster both recreation and environmental stewardship,” stated Flood. “Each project speaks to our commitment to enhancing community spaces where families can connect with nature and enjoy our region’s incredible outdoors.”
The projects benefiting from this funding include:
- Bear Swamp Park in Upper Mount Bethel Township, which will receive $550,000 for rehabilitation efforts such as a new internal loop trail, boardwalk, interpretive signage, ADA access, landscaping, and other site improvements.
- Upper Mount Bethel Preserve is allocated $600,000 for trail renovation, walkway construction, overlooks, a pavilion, and stormwater management measures aimed at improving accessibility and sustainability.
- Bushkill Creek Restoration will benefit from $185,000 awarded to the Wildlands Conservancy for stream restoration activities in Easton. This includes dam removal, streambank stabilization, and riparian forest buffer installation.
- Comprehensive Recreation Plan for Northampton County will be updated with the help of a $75,000 grant to provide a strategic plan for future recreational development.
These grants are expected to expand public parks, enhance outdoor spaces, and protect natural resources across the region. The Community Conservation Partnerships Program is supported by state and federal sources such as the Keystone Recreation Fund, Environmental Stewardship Fund, and Land and Water Conservation Fund.
